I’m very pleased to announce the start of weekly Writing for Wellness circles at the Swarthmore Healing Center beginning in January. These circles will provide opportunities for creativity and unburdening, a place to play with words and time to open our hearts onto the page.
Building on the past eight years of group facilitation experience and my Masters in Transformative Language Arts, I hope that these circles will serve an essential need in my local community and be a springboard to other offerings and connections throughout the region and the world.
The Healing Center is a perfect venue for this type of work. While writing may not seem like a prescriptive act, something we would do for ourselves to help us feel better, medical research continues to show that writing about our lives in particular ways can reduce the impact of stress and contribute to long term health benefits.
Just the simple act of writing together in a circle, sharing our words, witnessing and being witnessed, is supportive, affirming and nurturing. And that’s just the sort of thing we need these days.
I hope you’ll be able to join me, beginning Jan 6th and 9th, 2011 at the Healing Center. I've added the first group of each series to the events section of our website.

Yes, the writing circles are active, although they are now monthly instead of weekly on the first Saturday of each month. The next writing circle is this Saturday, January 7th at 9am at the Swarthmore Healing Center. You can learn more and register here.
