"Earth Prayer" by Mark Nepo

(FROM 8/18 PRAYER CALL)

O Endless Creator, Force of Life, Seat of the Unconscious,
Dharma, Atman, Ra, Qalb, Dear Center of our Love,
Christlight, Yaweh, Allah, Mawu,
Mother of the Universe...

Let us, when swimming with the stream,
become the stream...
Let us, when moving with the music,
become the music...
Let us, when rocking the wounded,
become the suffering...

Let us live deep enough
till there is only one direction...
and slow enough till there is only
the beginning of time...
and loud en… Continue

Liberation

Let it come --
whether it rises from the well of grief
or pitches forward in predatory longing,
though it tumbles from a nameless source
or strikes out from fleeting solitude.
Cut a path.
Trim the reluctance,
that in its pruned protests
fear will know your naked gaze,
hiding impossible
for you
or the phantom thoughts
scurrying ahead of so much
stainless posturing and well-tended order.
The agenda can wait.
So, too, the lists
and needs that steal you
from this soul prayer.
Let it come --
the achi… Continue

Rumi and Hafiz on love

"TIRED OF SPEAKING SWEETLY," by Hafiz

Love wants to reach out and manhandle us,
Break all our teacup talk of God.
If you had the courage and
Could give the Beloved His choice, some nights,
He would just drag you around the room
By your hair,
Ripping from your grip all those toys in the world
That bring you no joy.
Love sometimes gets tired of speaking sweetly
And wants to rip to shreds
All your erroneous notions of truth
That make you fight within yourself, dear one,
And with others,
Ca… Continue

Two poems by Jane Kenyon

"LET EVENING COME"

Let the light of late afternoon
shine through chinks in the barn, moving
up the bales as the sun moves down.

Let the cricket take up chafing
as a woman takes up her needles
and her yarn. Let evening come.

Let dew collect on the hoe abandoned
in long grass. Let the stars appear
and the moon disclose her silver horn.

Let the fox go back to its sandy den.
Let the wind die down. Let the shed
go black inside. Let evening come.

To the bottle in the ditch, to the scoop
in… Continue

Thanks so much, Sandy, for your honoring and for your feedback. And wow - an afternoon of my poetry?! That really touches me.

Rhetta and I actually planned the program (modeling it after something similar that was done last year where multiple expressions were shared around the theme in a more circular setting). We wanted a blend of creativity and inspirational wisdom, but I certainly appreciate your feedback.

We really did want everything to connect to the theme, to make it more of a coherent flow so that one poem would lead into what one insight speaker shared and so on... but despite providing guidelines to everyone, as far as the theme and their time allotment, in the end, there were some who strayed.

But yes, I do realize that there are likely many who prefer the one speaker and music. And different people plan each month to bring different experiences to the community.

I hope you are well and that tucked in your heart in all this snowy weather is still a warm and lingering glow from your travels in Hawaii.

Love to you,
Naila

I want to commend you on your leading of the sacred space on Sunday. You are a lovely, refreshing, and light filled presence.

I'd like to give my honest feedback on the content of the program. Please take it for what it's worth and let go of anything that doesn't serve.

I personally like the format of having one main speaker and music. I found myself confused and overwhelmed by so many words and different expressions. Poetry is not a medium that I'm "easy" with. Yours touches me more than most and there were some very wonderful expressions (including Sean's). However the plethora of expressions, although each worthy and sincere, left me uneasy and unfocused.

Please pass this along to anyone who does program planning. Although I am one person only, I always appreciate honest feedback and like to give it as well.

Love to you dear Naila. I wish you well and again thanks for your effort and being who you are. I think I would have liked to have had an afternoon of your poetry and that would have fed me more.

Happy Birthday Naila, and for making another journey around the sun again.
I can hear in your excitement that the SELP has impacted you in a positive way. Your project sounds like a wonderful project, that I believe, will enroll many for years to come. Great work .
