Time to Have your Say!

Something I love about Common Ground: Events Like This!! How often do you get to go explore and share deep spiritual stuff in a completely safe, supportive, fun, creative environment with lots of cool people who care deeply?! As one of the event planners, I can tell you that SO much goes into making an event like this work well and there are many of us hoping you all will come and partake of the many fruits that will be offered. We look forward to seeing… Continue

Sonnets to Orpheus, Part Two, XII by Rainer Maria Rilke

Read for Prayer Call on April 30th, see also "Ithaka"

Want the change. Be inspired by the flame.

Where everything shines as it disappears.

The artist, when sketching, leaves nothing so much

as the curve of the body as it turns away.

What locks itself in sameness has congealed.

Is it safer to be gray and numb?

What turns hard becomes rigid

and is easily shattered.

Pour yourself like a fountain.

Flow into the knowledge that what… Continue

ITHAKA by C.P. Cavafy: Poem read Thursday, April 30th

As you set out for Ithaka

hope your road is a long one,

fulll of adventure, fullof discovery.

Laistrygonians, Cyclops, angry Poseidon--

don't be afraid of them;

you'll never find thing like that along your way

as long as a rare excitement

stirs your spirit and body.

Laistrygonians, Cyclops, wild Poseidon--

you won't encounter them

unless you bring them along inside your soul,

unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope… Continue

Eternal Return Thought Experiment

From "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" (Nietzche):

"What if, some day or night, a demon were to steal after you into your loneliest loneliness and say to you: ''This life as you now live it and have lived it, you will have to live once more and innumerable times more; and there will be nothing new in it, but every pain and every joy and every thought and sigh and everything unutterably small or great in your life will have to return to you, all in the same succession and sequence--even this… Continue

Carolyn,
Many thanks to you and Noel for hosting a v. special Salon Sat. eve. ...

Returning to the more mundane matter of my cinema event membership :) - I just RSVP'd I'll attemd the Dean Spanley film. Saw no way to "join" the event. Will my RSVP enroll me? If not, I'll call as you recommended. But hoping for instant gratification.

Why thank-you, Carolyn! Rob works tonight (he's a psychiatric nurse with non-standard hours) and I have a previous commitment, but we are both cineastes of a sort who also deeply appreciate good company and community, so, despite the distance (we live up here with the cows and Republicans) your group is firmly on my radar, and his.

I am quite impressed that you remember Rob's name! Bravo to you for your herculean social skills. May I just add, on a personal note, that you have a wonderful face and a delightfully open and welcoming manner.

I appreciate such people. They help make the world go 'round.

Thank-you for being so welcoming to my friend Rob and I at the last service. You are a lovely person, and I will endeavor to make the trek down for the movie group you host.

May sunshine surround and shepherd you through the coming darker months!
