Common Ground

Whatever the question, love is the answer...

--Thank You all for your beautiful spirits, your expression, your willingness and your enthusiasm! What a wonderful first go at unearthing this Sacred Community Dance! Thanks to all who joined in the energy and awakening of Spirit Dancing- we will be able to continue. We had a joyous celebration and community session! There are many more depths to enter and explore, heights to soar to and sing and infinitely more to come!!

--This is a community event, meant to be a resource, a celebration and a healing for the community. Feel free to give your thoughts on where you'd like it to go! You can email me directly at firefreedomdance@hotmail.com or place your thoughts here for an ongoing discussion!!

Some questions to ponder and respond to include:
*What is the best day and time for Spirit Dancing for you? Is Sunday afternoon good?
*Is two hours too long to commit to. . . would 1.5 hours be better? (Integrating the sharing of food and community networking following, as we did, works well in the 2 hour time frame)
*Are you more interested in free dancing with sporadic emotional, elemental and spiritual guidance. . . or more interested in being directly guided into expanding the range of motion and developing inner resource in movement, yoga and sounding? (not mutually exclusive!! I aim for a balance of both in my facilitation style. . . Curious if that feels good or if more or less of either is preferred!)

I felt that a good bit of the exploration and development of ceremonial interaction with the altars and with each other, with setting intention and cultivating prayer, got left out and look forward to focusing more on that for the next event, as well as integrating various traditional forms of prayer and celebration!
I also felt that the high intensity dance and rhythm may have gone on a little too long, creating some exhaustion, as opposed to shifting into and staying in the uplifting, inspirational and fluid expression of connection to spirit and the cooling down energy which follows.

Let me know what you think!! Joy to the gift of dance, sound, music, community and spirit!!
Joy to each of you and the wisdom and inspiration you bring!!
Namaste. Lara

Hi Lara!

I wanted to say first that I thought the event Sunday was fantastic! Thank you so much for trusting your intuitive Spirit in how it unfolded. I had some concerns personally as to how comfortable or self conscious I would feel and before I actually realized it I was dancing swept away by your voice and the music to another 'place' until I was exhausted (in a good way).

Sunday afternoons are fine with me. Personally because I have my son with me every other weekend, I wouldn't be able to make it from 4-6 on the weekends I have Tim because he needs to be back with his Mom by 6:30 on those Sundays. I wouldn't be opposed at all to it being a little earlier (or a different day) either. I think it needs to be at least 2 hours. I did resonate with your comment you thought maybe it was too intensive dancing for too long a time. Maybe not for the folks 'in shape'..haha...as for me I was SPENT by the end of the dancing so I couldn't even stretch at the end.

I think the balance you are speaking to between free expression and guided movement is excellent. I found the way you guided us was perfect and added to the experience immensely. Your voice became almost hypnotic and didn't impinge upon me at all from freely expressing myself while still feeling part of a larger whole.

The last part you mentioned about ceremonial interaction, setting intention and cultivating prayer.....I would LOVE to see that become more integrated into this event as it evolves. I personally came not only to express myself and release creativity in me through dance but also to feel part of an inclusive spiritual community expressing itself in a safe sacred place using ritual, prayer, music, meditation, sharing with each other and celebrating the commonality we all have in who we really are as opposed to the division and stressing of our differences and fostering separation that we are conditioned into.

Great job Lara! I've been yearning for years to find like-minded people who don't consider personal soul growth to be relegated to organized religion.
Hi Lara,So great to see you taking Dee's brainchild of Spirit Dancing and REVIVING it.There cannot be TOO much dance I am sorry i was unavailable...can you incl me on your email list, since I don't always keep up to date w/ Commonground web. laurabertin@verizon.net - As you know, I lead the Main Line Group Motion workshops on the first Sun. of every mth. (7-9 pm) EXCEPT during July and Aug. (we actually RESUME on the 2nd Sun. JUST in Sept. , due to the Labor Day week-end) Hope you can make it. I will try to come to YOUR next event, too! It sounds wonderful. Is there live music like w/our Group Motion? I am so excited, as I leave day after tomorrow to dance w/ G.M. at Arcosanti ( in the AZ. desert)-check it out on Facebook !!! It actually starts next MON. eve. & goes til Thurs. IF ANYONE WANTS, still plenty of room!
Blessings for the gift you give to community-through mind, body, spirit connections w/ EACH OTHER. It will heal the world
Saturday and Sunday are my only downtime days to take care of myself and household, so my preference is Sunday. 2 hours goes by so quickly, and less than that wouldn't do the purpose justice. A sacred, ceremonial, ritual like platform that has opportunity for sporadic expression preceded by guided would be my preference. I'm looking to enjoy the magic of music through fluid movement and keeps me actively engaged the entire time.
