Phoebe in Wonderland, directed by Daniel Barnz
Film duration: 1 hour, 36 minutes

Phoebe (Elle Fanning) is a young, playful, imaginative kid for whom the rules and regs of school are a real drag. When she finds out the drama teacher is calling for auditions for Alice in Wonderland, Phoebe’s creative energy becomes ignited and focused…and yet there’s an unusual, disturbing nature to her excitement. Felicity Huffman gives one of the most powerful performances of her career as Phoebe's guilt-ridden mother. She and her perplexed husband (Bill Pullman) initially see Phoebe's unusual behavior as a sign of creativity, but with the help of an unconventional drama teacher (Patricia Clarkson), they soon realize that their daughter is in danger of falling "through the looking glass." –Amazon

This is a film for anyone who’s ever been a kid, as it goes to the heart of how engaging in our creative passions can save us from the hum-drum nature of a presumptuous world around us. Have you ever felt like a misfit, an outsider? What inspires you to love learning? What teacher has made a difference in your own life? If the film moves you enough to want to share with others, or just explore other’s perspectives, stay for our discussion group afterward. The discussion group focuses on insights and life lessons that we might apply in our daily lives.

Donation to Common Ground: $5.00. Light refreshments served at 7PM. The film starts promptly at 7:30 PM.
