SUMMARY:Film Circle this Friday Night: \"Milk\"
DESCRIPTION:Come at 7PM for light refreshments before the film. $5 don
ation to PMC. The screening starts promptly at 7:30. After the film, w
e'll have a circle discussion which focuses on the offering of insight
s that might apply to our daily lives.\n\n'\"Milk,\" written by Dustin
Lance Black and directed by Gus Van Sant, is the first great films to
look at civil rights from the perspective of the gay movement. The su
bject is the late, charismatic San Francisco gay activist and politici
an of the 1970s, Harvey Milk, played with extraordinary depth and wisd
om by Sean Penn. \"Milk\" resists bumper-sticker identifications: Yes,
it's a biopic, a love story, a civil rights movie and sharp political
and social commentary. But it transcends any single genre as a very h
uman document that touches first and foremost on the need to give peop
le hope.\nThe film is superbly crafted, covering huge amounts of time,
people and the zeitgeist without a moment of lapsed energy or inatten
tion to detail.“\n–Kirk Honeycutt, reviewer\n\nThis film says a lo
t about the cohesion and intimacy of a particular community and the po
werful statements it can make to the larger city, country and world. â
€œWith top contributions from his entire crew, Van Sant captures in \"
Milk\" an entire panoply of clashing passions, opinions and personalit
ies within the gay rights movement that changed a country forever but
drove a wedge between its people that remains to this day.\"\n-Kirk Ho
neycutt, reviewer\n\nThe film took home two Oscars: Sean Penn for Best
Actor and Dustin Lance Black for Best Original Screenplay. The runnin
g time is 2 hours, 8 minutes.\n\nRSVP: Seating is limited. Please RSVP
on this page (if you’re a member of Common Ground's website), other
wise email your RSVP to cpearson11@yahoo.com. If you have questions, f
eel free to call me at 610-724-8848.\n\nFor more information visit htt
