Event Description

Stranger Than Fiction
Director: Mark Forster
Actors: Will Ferrell, Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah, Maggie Gyllenhaal
(Running time: 1 hour, 53 minutes)

Harold Crick (Will Ferrell in a non-comedic role), plays a man who lives his life in a precise, routine manner…until one day his world is shaken by a strange voice in his head, narrating his every move. We find out early in the film that the voice is of a real-life author, (Emma Thompson), who does indeed seem to be writing Harold’s biography day by day. It may sound like a kooky plot, but the filmmakers and actors pull it off skillfully and it’s a fascinating look at one’s life as…well, a good story. Dustin Hoffman takes a turn as a literary theorist who tries to help Harold through the dilemma of his unraveling plot. The film twists and turns as Harold tries to figure out whether his story is comedy, tragedy…or something else. It’s a commentary on art vs. commercialism, as well as a fun, imaginative ride.

What if we ARE writing our own life stories? What would you do next? Come share your thoughts and musings with us afterward in our group discussion, as we look together for life lessons and insights.
