Event Description

Today, the only things that are certain are death, taxes, and rising energy costs. The Department of Defense and the Department of Energy's Energy Information Agency predict huge jumps in energy costs as early as 2012. Consumers could see costs double by that time. Worse, there could be shortages as soon as 2015. This is very serious news, but whether or not it occurs as predicted, the fiscally responsible move, especially in hard economic times, is to stop wasting energy.

Of course, energy efficiency and conservation is very good for the climate. In fact, it is the cheapest, fastest, most effective remedy for everyone.

The Doylestown Environmental Advisory Council, in cooperation with the Warminster EAC will host a First Friday video discussion on how to make your home more efficient and comfortable.

The average home, even if built recently, wastes a lot of energy. Whether you own or rent, modern technology can show you how to economically slash home energy costs by reducing common forms of energy waste. And, you may even be able to pay for the work out of the energy savings.

"Energy @ Home" stars Dave Price, a building specialist with the United States Environmental Protection Agency. It is the latest in a series of guides for homeowners who want to reduce their energy costs. The video is produced by PA Home Energy, West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund, and Penn State University.

Attendees will learn how to select the best-qualified designers and builders for new construction and remodeling. Moderated by Larry Menkes, a certified Sustainable Building Advisor, and other green design professionals, the program will help get everyone ready for the coming winter, no matter how cold or snowy.
